Phoenix Aviation
Phoenix Aviation is now in its 11th year of operation from Solent Airport Daedalus, Lee on the Solent.
The club is located in the Control Tower, providing superb views across the airfield. Run by flying enthusiasts for flying enthusiasts, the Club offers affordable flying training, aircraft hire and trial lessons in a friendly and professional environment.
Phoenix Aviation is a Civil Aviation Authority approved, Declared Training Organisation (DTO) offering flying tuition, ground school and ground exams for the Private Pilots Licence (PPL), Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL), National Private Pilots Licence (NPPL) and Microlight ratings at very competitive rates.
Phoenix also provide more advanced training for PPL holders, for the Instrument Rating (Restricted) IR(R) at Lee and Night Ratings at other airfields.
The Trial Lesson
The lesson begins with a comprehensive pre-flight briefing on the principles of flight, the aircraft and its controls and what to expect during the lesson. During the flight, and under the expert eyes of your instructor, you will take the controls and experience what it's like to pilot an aircraft.
If you've chosen to fly the PA28, you can bring a friend to share the experience. There is no extra cost for a passenger, but there are weight limits.
**Please note that we are not able to take a passenger until Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed.
On the 1 hour only lessons, and for an additional fee of £20, there is an option to include a landing part-way through the flight at a local airfield. In the PA28s, this will enable you to share the flying with a friend – one flying out and the other back. Because of weight, weather and airfield availability constraints, this option can only be purchased on the day when all the above are known.
No lower or upper age limits apply for learning to fly, but for practical reasons we recommend teenagers and upwards.
The trial lesson can be logged as training and counts towards a Commercial Pilot’s Licence, PPL, or NPPL licence.

Please note, that we do not fly unless the weather is suitable for the lesson AND we are satisfied that it will be an enjoyable experience. In the UK climate this means that a rebooking, and possibly more than one rebooking, may be required. Sometimes
we can slightly delay the flight on the day, to allow for the weather to improve e.g. a mist to disperse, but this depends on what other bookings there are.
The weather can be just as good for flying in the winter as the summer, but trial lesson vouchers are valid for 10 months so this gives plenty of time to plan/re-plan the flight.
